Phidias Gold Paper Toy Show

On May 27th I had a piece in the Phidias Gold Paper Toy show @ the Lap Gallery in Waltham, MA. After seeing the rest of the entries I wish I could do some touch up work on mine, but it's a good lesson in always delivering your best on every project.

I am not quite sure who did the flyer for this show, but if I ever met him I would tell him he did a very nice job.

This was mine.

Friendly Fridays: J-RYU

Last Thursday night while setting up the Locals Only show with Jess from Wootini I received a rather odd phone call from our good friend Jesse Yu. Apparently he was in the ER and explained that while finishing his piece for the show he had a semi-serious injury and was feeling a little faint. He kept saying that he was sorry that he wouldn't have his piece done in time to which I replied "don't worry about it and I hope everything is alright." The next night Jesse showed up at the show without his piece, but with some fresh stitches, a bootleg Michael Jackson glove (which was both a fashion statement and a healing apparatus) and a totally new piece (the second picture down which contains the actual blade that cut him) as a present for me, commemorating his experience from the night before.

If you are not familiar with J-RYU's work, be on the look out for him. Over the past year, he was in the Big Trouble in Little China show at Gallery 1988, in a three man show at Dragatomi and is nominated for best customizer as well as best breakthrough artist for the Designer Toy Awards 2011. He is also currently working in the depths of his secret garage laboratory on some next level shit.

I was featured in the new V&A Street Art Book

One of my stickers was featured in and was on the back cover of the new book "Street Art- Contemporary Prints" that was put out by the Victoria and Albert Museum in South Kensington, London. Not quite sure how they ended up with on of my stickers, but I am none the less honored to join the incredible list of artists that are featured in this book.

Behind the Scenes of "Jack Sparrow" - Part 2

On the last day of shooting we were given the task of moving a 800 pound crows nest 200 yards across the beach near Coney Island. Which wouldn't be that big of a problem except the total weight of our crew was about 500 soaking wet. With some combined brain power and some industrial farming equipment we got it on the beach and assembled with plenty of time to spare. The day turned out to be beautiful, hilarious and a complete success.
If you haven't seen the final video you can check it out here.

Honkey Kong!

I didn't do the cover for this, but it seems Apathy is still rolling strong with the logo I made for him. Check out the first track off his new album Honkey Kong here.

One of the best things I have ever seen.

Found this picture of Sean Kernick's girls in front of my mural at Wootini on his Facebook page, what a great photo.

Friendly Fridays: Smut Villain

This is the art work of the one and only Smut Villain aka Tim Sullivan. Smut is one of my best friends and is one of my favorite artists as well as one of my biggest influences. I used to live with him and feel like we both developed a very similar style while constantly drawing together. He doesn't have a website or a Flickr account and doesn't even seem to be interested in showing his work, but he is always producing stacks of new paintings. Smut also has super excellent DJ stylings and has a bunch of albums available for free download at Free Ice Cream.
