More bear stuff

This was something I was working on that I lost interest with.

The rest of the steps

1. After I put the background color in I realized the color of the elephant was to light. I then went back to the elephant head fill and shading and darkened them both up.
2. For the lettering I found a font that was very similar to the one they used and warped it on a upper arch. From there I added a red stoke and a black stroke. The black stroke looked a little sloppy so I used the pen tool to create jagged marks around and on the letters.
3. I found a font that looked like the powell font. You can buy that font now, but the one I had was very close. For the powell logo I went on brands of the world, found the powell logo, downloaded it and rotated it sideways to make it look like a E.
4. Lastly I threw in the 7ply logo and presto! The finished product.

Swerve

My good buddy swerve hooked me up with this outline. Make sure to check his blog there is some sick stuff on it. http://swerveoneda.blogspot.com/

Vallely background

1. For the background I went on eBay and found a picture of the deck I was doing the tribute to. I saved the image and placed it as the very bottom layer. The original boards background is really rough, but I wanted to go with a more clean look to fit the cartoony aesthetic I was going for. I then used the pen tool to roughly trace the outline of the background. I could have used the live trace feature, but it's a to much of a cheat and never really looks that good anyway.
2. I next continued to draw in the rest of the pattern using pink to make it easier to see over the black. Due to the fact that older decks were shorter I had to make up a bunch of the pattern for the bottom. The pattern on this board wasn't very hard to follow.
3. When one whole side was done I simple selected it all copied, pasted, horizontally reflected it and moved it to the other side of the center line.
4. I used the same technique for the top of the board and placed a layer behind the pattern with a gradient square on it.

New flash kit

Karim got a new flash kit and a backdrop so I posed for my new portrait.

Vallely next steps

1. After cleaning up the art work I placed the elephant head into a skateboard template. You can find one online pretty easy. The one I found was for a board that was 7.75. It had to be modified due to the fact that 7ply makes their shop boards from 7.5 to 8.25. The new I created is 8.18 with a bleed of 8.26.
2. I made a layer behind the elephant head and used the pen tool to just fill in the background color of the head.
3. I inserted a new layer in between the elephant head layer and the background layer and used the pen tool to do the shading I wanted.
4. I copied the elephant head layer and pasted it on a new layer behind everything. Next I selected the hole head and put a yellow stroke on it. from there I made another layer all the way in the back and created the circle behind everything.

Vallely step 2

I brought the image into Illustrator, live traced it and then cleaned it up as you can see from these images. Live trace always leaves the artwork a little messy.

Career Suicide show?

These are paintings and preliminary images for my show at Alias Gallery. It was supposed to be all portraits of the suicide girls. Unfortunately the gallery went out of business the month before the show. I only finished two of the paintings. One of them is at One Way gallery and the other is currently at Civil skateboard shop.

ink work

This is the inked drawing of a Vallely tribute board I'm working on for 7ply. This is one of the layers of drawings I have to do for this project. It will probably take 2 to 5 layers to make the whole board. I will keep updating my progress on this as it happens. I'm considering doing a step by step tutorial of this on my website when done.

Portland, Me

I went up to Portland to visit my brother last week. We only got to walk around for a couple hours due to the cold weather. Here are a few pictures I got in that time.
